Common questions about ceilings & drywalling
How long does a ceiling replacement take?
A single room is usually a day or two, a whole house most of a week, depending on access and whether the old ceiling has to come out first. Grid ceilings in commercial space go up faster, provided the services above are ready.
Drywall or brick for a new internal wall?
Drywall is faster, lighter, cheaper and easy to run services through, and with the right build-up it performs well acoustically. Brick is better where you need mass, security or heavy wall-hung loads. We will tell you which one your situation calls for.
Will the ceiling crack again?
Not if the cause was dealt with. Ceiling cracks usually come from movement, inadequate bracing, or moisture from a leak above. Replacing the boards without fixing the cause just resets the clock.
Can you insulate an existing ceiling?
Yes, in most roofs, provided there is access and enough working space. We keep insulation clear of downlights and transformers and maintain ventilation, both of which are routinely got wrong.
Do you work around air conditioning and electrical?
Yes — and we coordinate with those trades before boarding rather than after. Electrical work is handled by Sirius Bright, our electrical arm, which makes the coordination considerably easier.
